I always advice people to do some research and be sure of what they are looking for before shopping for natural skin care products. This advice is very important because there are many products on the market that claim to be ‘natural’ yet they contain ingredients that are harmful to your body.

The problem is that many consumers don’t even know that these ingredients are dangerous, so they end up buying those products just because they are being promoted as natural. Some of the harmful ingredients you should avoid are:

Parabens – These are group of chemicals such as methyl, propyl, butyl, and ethyl paraben; they are used in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries as preservatives. The truth is that they are harmful to your body; they cause allergies, interfere with the body’s endocrine system and can also cause cancer.

Fragrance – My advice is, when you go shopping for natural skin, avoid products that contain fragrances. Fragrance contains chemicals that are harmful to your body. If you want to smell nice use a perfume, that way your body will absorbing smaller amounts of the chemicals as opposed to when you use creams or lotions that contain fragrance.

Mineral oil – It is very disturbing to see mineral oil on the label of a ‘natural’ product; it could also be listed as liquid paraffin, paraffin wax or petrolatum; They are widely used as emollients because they are cheap. The reality is that mineral oil does not moisturize your body; it coats your skin and prevents it from breathing; so help yourself by avoiding any product that contains any form of mineral oil whenever you go shopping for natural skincare products. It also prevents elimination of toxins thereby clogging your pores and causing breakouts. It could strip your body of its natural oil causing dryness, chapping and premature aging.

Alcohols – These include ethanol, ethyl alcohol, methanol, benzyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol and SD alcohol; they irritate and dry out your skin.

Dioxane – This is a coconut derivative; it is harmful to body because it causes cancer.

The above mentioned ingredients are toxic to your body; therefore whenever you shop for natural skin care products, do yourself the favor of going through the ingredients listed on the label of the product you want to buy. If you find any of these harmful ingredients, please don’t buy the product no matter what it claims to do for your skin.
