Are Natural Skin Care Products Really Effective? Find Out
Not sure if natural skin-care products are as effective as or even more effective than heavily advertised synthetic compounds? Uncertain if you want to switch to something nature made as opposed to lab made? What does the science say about this topic? Let’s find out.
What Makes Natural Skin Care Work?
Did you realize that nearly every synthetic skin care product was created to duplicate the effects of a natural ingredient? It may sound strange, but it is the truth. The fact is that in general, natural skin care ingredients are more expensive than synthetic versions, and that means that to make more money, cosmetic firms opt to use cheaper synthetics. Don’t believe me – look at the price of a bottle of real rose oil and synthetic rose oil – the difference will shock you.
Want another example – look at honey prices. Real honey, made by bees, is more expensive than flavored corn syrup substitute honey, but what it offers is incredible. From a cosmetic perspective, honey has amazing antibiotic properties, is a natural antiseptic, and is a hygroscopic (meaning it draws moisture from the air to itself). How would you like moister looking skin that resists blemishes?
Natural Products Provide Inspiration
Have you heard of AHA – alpha hydroxyl acid? This acid, frequently used in natural skin care, originates from sugar cane, citrus fruit, or apples. It is very effective in helping the body remove the outer layers of skin that have become dull and damaged. Originally, such products were natural skin care products, now they are synthesized in a lab. Why? Price.
Price is, unfortunately, the main reasons behind many decisions in the cosmetics industry. It is cheaper and easier to create synthetic products in a lab than it is to let them develop in their own time out in nature. The effectiveness can be mimicked fairly well, but the end results can be quite different.
Price versus Health
Any synthetic chemical you put into your body must be broken down by the liver and kidneys; a detoxification process if you will. As the chemicals are absorbed through the skin, the body must deal with this “poisoning” – scarcely the ideal response to a product that is supposed to make you look healthy.
Many synthetically based lotions contain mineral oil – a byproduct of the petroleum industry. Not only is it dangerous if accidentally inhaled, it can block pores and is associated with increased skin cancer risk. Do you really want to put the same oil on your body as you do in your car engine anyway?
Natural skin care products use a variety of oils and fats that are found in nature. Nut oils, seed oils, and various fats are combined in products that are easily absorbed, are well tolerated by most people, and provide superior results without the dangers associated with synthetics.
Do Some Research
If you are still not convinced, start small. Try a natural lip balm rather than a chemical one. Your lips will be softer, you will avoid the weird waxy feel, and you won’t have to worry about your child getting their hands on it. In the meanwhile, take a look around the Internet; you will find that natural skin care is not only as effective as synthetic variants, it is better for you body and soul.
